How do I make blender think that forward is -Z and up is +Y? (This is the orientation for UE4.)
Or do I just have to deal with it and make all my models and animations first and then rotate them?

Which export do you use? fbx has fields to re-orient objects.
I’m going to be useing FBX to export to UE4. http://code.blender.org/index.php/2014/06/supporting-game-developers-with-blender-2-71/
But as from the tutorials that I have seen so far, if you don’t manually rotate your model before exporting, then several things wont export properly.
fbx is closed and owners use to change it a lot. However it is in works; you could try at least - chances are this part is functional since.
Is there a better way to export to UE4?
