Blender 2.79 RC1 is out.

Man… Renderer -> Cycles, Render settings feature set -> Experimental, and then check render layer settings last tab

It’s indeed the scrambling distance that let you sample without noise, it works quite well in some cases but in others it gives bad artifacts …
I get in love at first sight but after a while I decided to break up…

It’s not related to denoising, and not in 2.79

I reworked the materials in Robin Marin’s Cycles Material Test Scene to try out the new Principled Shader node, over-all I’m impressed!

Looks 50% more faster, not so noised at low settings, looks pretty good rly.

So happy to see Edit tools, Tissue, Celtic Links and Edge Roundifier made the cuts.

Great creative tools. Not exactly the meat or the spotlight tools (Denoiser, Filmic, etc), but, for those of us without
the muscle of NVidia or AMD, welcome tools to have and play around with.

Thanx

Principle BSDF shader and filmic is what makes me most happy

Best Regards!

AMD FirePro W7000 not recognized

v2.78

V2.79

where can I download blender nightly build from, let’s say, 10 -14 days ago.
my problem is that in new blender 2.79 rc GPU amd firepro w7000(pitcaim) apparently is not supported!?!:confused:
in blender 2.78.5… everything was OK
can anyone help?

Make a bug report instead of whining.

I already did!
Now I just want to find an earlier version of nightly builds

the one before AMD GCN 1 cards were blacklisted

GCN 1 is not supported in 2.79 and forward. https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/render/cycles/gpu_rendering.html#opencl

Hi Shomyshomy, check http://graphicall.org/
There is one from mid July, “Fastest Build”.

Cheers, mib

Just a heads up. 2.79 RC1 is quite slow in rendertimes with opencl. BMW27 takes 1m24s to render. The latest builds it takes 1m8s.

I find it strange that it says that it has improved on opencl rendering but it’s slower than the official 2.78

What do you mean by latest build? 2.78c is slower in my tests, and the build from builder.blender.org is faster because it includes new optimizations.

The daily builds are faster than the official RC1. RC1 is a bit slower than 2.78c. On my card that is Amd r9 390x.

I’ll make a small render test again and post it here soon:

2.78c - 01m21s http://i.imgur.com/aH8WWLS.png

2.79RC1 - 01m23s http://i.imgur.com/FOvNi87.png

2.79 latest build - 01m04s http://i.imgur.com/VjDuE5W.png

tile size? 2.78c was fast with one big tile, 2.79 is fast with 256x256 or less tiles (in Barcelona, 64x64 is best). Please do the test again with optimal tile size and post updated results.

Would you be ready to pay 5€ to get an optimized build for GCN 1.0 cards?

They are all one big tile.

That is a bit bad, i could be wrong, but i use OpenCL2.0 softwares on GCN1 without any problem ( theres a backward compatible mode with OpenCL, it will use only the features availble on Opencl 1.2 ( or 1.1 ), so in general slower, but thats all ).

when you say optimised build for GCN 1 cards you mean

  • Filmic
  • Denoising
  • Principled BSDF
    all included and working?

If that’s the case, then I can pay u 5€ and share the build with everybody interested for free
