Im having an issue where there are no shader nodes visible at all and I am not sure why that is. Take a look:

Does starting blender with factory settings works?
Please post a list of all your active addons (most probable cause), a list of the files in 2.79/scripts/modules, and the file 2.79/scripts/startup/nodeitems_builtins.py
alright I fixed it. I have no idea how but the nodeitems_builtins.py (addons > startup) got deleted. I copied it and its fixed !
