I think you are over simplifying that. I’m not going to pretend to know exactly what it takes to get that lvl of customization, but it sounds like a lot needs to be restructured under the hood in order to make it possible. If it were that easy to have that amount of coding free customization, then all packages would support it.
We as users only work with the end product. We don’t think about what has to be done to make whatever widget or features possible, so it makes us trivialize those tasks.
Edit: not saying it cant be done, just that its probably a lot more developer time than you think.
One of the goals of 2.8 though has been said to be more flexibility for end users, so I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if multiple workflow approaches (that were not possible before) make an appearance.
When that was announced from the dev. team, some people were skeptical of the idea. Looking at this thread however, it seems to be all but needed.
A tear came into my eye just looking at the gif. sniffle

Too late, I started using it since 2.5, never became my main tool because of it’s UI/workflow, but now Blender has the power to be the best of the best, and I want it to be. So
i cannot open any of those testfiles https://www.blender.org/2-8/#try-it-yourself
with the actual win64 testbuilts atm.
It allways crashes while loading.
i already updated nvidia drivers to 398.11
So Blender becomes the best by looking like a copy of C4D…
What about the former Maya users?
What about the former Max users?
What about the former Modo users?
What about the former XSI users?
What about the former Lightwave users?
What about the longtime Blender users?
You can’t have Blender have every UI element and workflow from every application at once because they could conflict with each other or will just not fit together well. As I mentioned, there are many places that the 2.5 UI design never explored or even considered and we are now seeing some of that in 2.8.
Hey folks. By the time you read this, this thread will be closed.
Gigantic megathreads have never been an ideal place to have coherent, useful conversations, regardless of the forum platform. The discussion becomes hard to follow, there’s not a lot of focus, disagreements tend to derail things, and it’s a generally bad experience… especially for people who visit the forum infrequently.
