Blender 2.8 How to use nodes/Guide

Hi guys, so I’ve been using blender for a while but I still struggle when I try to texture my models. I want to create my own textures but I have zero knowledge of what each node does. I have watched a couple of tutorials on how to create procedural textures but I feel I’m not learning by just recreating what I’m seeing.

So Im here asking if anyone knows a guide where it explains each node or what are the most common used nodes to create semi or realistic materials.

I tried free PBR materials and shaders online but it always ends up the same, me not understanding the shader window or what option to change to make the texture closer to the look that I want.

Maybe im asking too much but I really do want to master this or at least know what it is.

Thank you guys in advance and have a great weekend.

  1. Read the manual: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/render/shader_nodes/index.html

  2. https://www.blenderguru.com/articles/cycles-shader-encyclopedia

  3. Play around a lot, with the expectation that you’re going to make a lot of ugly shit while you do so. Experimentation is how you learn.
