Blender and Match-Moving

Hi all and Merry Christmas.

Can someone please tell me if there is a way of importing data into Blender from a Match-Moving App such as Realviz MatchMover. I know how to import from Icarus but I want to be able to use commercial software like MatchMover. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, you would need a script, but that’s some really expensive and proprietary softwareand you may have a bit of trouble locating one, if one exists at all. I searched the scripting forum. There are very few references to that software and no scripts for it available there. Like I mentioned, expensive and proprietary. Mostly you’ll find scripts for open source projects, pro-3D modeling apps and 2D pro-imaging apps. Try google.

Thanks for the quick reply RamboBaby. I use MatchMover in Maya but to be honest I would much rather use Blender because of its UI, I now find myself fumbling around in Maya to certain extent because I automatically use Blender shortcuts and so on instead of Maya’s. To me it feels more relaxed to use Blender and would like to be able to use it for basically every aspect.

You can export as .obj files, then do your match moving. I don’t know if it will respect properties such as IPOs and such, but I’m fairly certain that your models and textures will load correctly.

With comments like that, you will win our enduring love and devotion:D. Merry Christmas!

If your not fixed on using MatchMover you could try one of the following…

Voodoo Camera Tracker (win and linux) is free and can export to blender (via a python script and can be used for commercial use).

PFHoe (proprietary, mac, win and pro supports linux) can also export a python script for blender.

I wrote a tutorial for Blender and Voodoo: http://fictionality.co.uk/doku.php?id=tutorials:matchmoving
