Blender Animation DVD

I’m working on a 5-minute Blender animation called “Late One Night.” I’ve completed a draft of the first 45 seconds as a proof-of-concept, but I’d like to ask Blender artists from around the world to help complete the movie. And I’d like to pay them for their time!

To this end, I’ve put together a DVD of 25 making-of videos that cover topics such as creating an animatic, modeling, rigging, UV mapping, texturing, library linking, and animation. The videos total more than 3 hours and show the processes I’m using, as well as the things I’m learning along the way. Also included are many of the .blend files from the project.

My plan is to create 2 more DVDs as the production progresses, with videos from other participating artists. The production so far has used Blender 2.49. Version 2.5x will be used for the next stages of production. The DVD is priced at $27.50.

I also hope this DVD can provide a little inspiration for those who’ve thought about starting their own Blender animation. There’s no time like the present to start making a movie!

Thanks so much to all in the Blender community who have helped and supported this project.

Happy Holidays!

I’ve watched some of your tutorials in the past… I really like your teaching style.

Thanks! Much appreciated. More will be up soon.

That looks really good, we need more training like this to get Blender on the world map

I would love to help if I can get the time to do it but what exactly is it you want help with?

Thanks, Jake. The first thing I’ll be looking for is someone who is an expert at character rigging in 2.5. My characters were rigged in 2.49 and the rigs don’t translate to 2.5 at all. I’d love to find someone who really knows what they’re doing to re-rig the two characters.

Hello Mr. Lile,

I’ve followed the progress of Late One Night for quite some time on Youtube. I’ve just purchased the DVD to support the effort, and I’m drafting and sending a formal proposal to you in hopes of securing a position on your production team.

The announcement that you are hiring applicants to assist in the completion of the short came as quite an exciting and inspiring surprise. Do you have a tentative FAQ for interested applicants? Have you cross posted on Vimeo and CG Society?

Thanks again for sharing, and thanks for your consideration for the team! Good luck with everything! Perhaps we’ll work together soon!

Cheers!

David Hurd

Hi, David. Thanks for your support!! I really appreciate it. I’ll see how the DVD does and know more after the first of the year. It’d be great if we could make this into something fun for everyone!

What you have so far is very impressive, and with the inclusion of the tutorials makes it all the better.

Sadly I wouldn’t be able to help out as I have priorities with studies and another animation project, however I could recommend you head over to kick start and try to raise some up front capital for this project, then for all the people who donate they could get a free DVD, or something along those lines.

It would’ve been more awesome if this were completely aimed at Blender 2.5x. Eitherways, great effort, usually don’t see much on this topic around. Probably Animating with Blender or Character Animation DVD are the only 2 contenders.
