Hi, I’ve been thinking that using blender would be a great way to make a low budget character creation tool so that I can generate a number of characters from a single mesh (kinda like makehuman with my own art). I was using shape keys for the character, but how can I get clothing to conform as well? Would this be something better done with bones?
Essentially, I’d like to be able to modify my character’s body, and then have the clothes that I want to dress him in be morphed, or easily morphable to his shape. Is this a python thing?
After I’m done tweaking and the like, I’ll want to apply the changes and export as an fbx. It would also be ideal if I could use the same weight painting and armature across all models so they can use the same walk cycle, idle etc.
What you are asking to do is very complicated. There are a few of us working on something similar right now.
There are many ways to do this, but I would suggest if you haven’t made a fully rigged character before, try that before attempting something so technically advanced.
I understand it is very complicated. But I also understand there are a lot of beginners coming in asking similar questions.
I actually am a professional 3D artist, and I play around with blender in my free time. I’ve rigged and animated countless characters but I just want to know how I would be best suited for this project. I don’t want/need someone to walk me through step by step, I just need a finger to point me to the right resources (: Thanks
If it isn’t possible to use the same rig across all models, or by ignoring that it creates significantly less setup work, I can live with that =P
EDIT: Also, I’d be interested to follow the others who are working on this as well. Do you know who else is doing this?
