Blender Branches and new features

As we all know there are some cool new features in blender, remesh modifier, cycles, dynamic paint and improved UV system to name a few…
Some upcoming ones like motion tracking and bmesh :eyebrowlift: that would improve modeling and animation.

Whats this branches that everyone is talking about like the tomato branch ?
Also does anyone know other developments for blender in the upcoming versions ?
And how can someone use motion tracking, like do you need equipment for this feature ?

Motion tracking is already in blender.

Whats this branches that everyone is talking about like the tomato branch ?

A Branch is an alternative development version for Blender, in which a developer makes a huge new feature, and when it is done it is merged to Trunk (official version of blender). The reason why new features are worked on in branches is because they may break other things along the way.

Also does anyone know other developments for blender in the upcoming versions ?

Skin modifier (Equivalent to Zbrush ZSpheres), Sculptris-like sculpting, Other sculpting improvements, Outline Rendering (freestyle), Unlimited detail vertex painting (Ptex), Cycles Volume shader, In 3D view Bullet physics… Etc…

And how can someone use motion tracking, like do you need equipment for this feature ?
