Blender cant open in files...

I have a very strange problem with blender, it will not allow me to open files that are not already within blender (like textures, .blend, basically anything not already in blender…) I have just updated from blender 2.42a if it makes any difference… but perhaps the strangest thing is that I can drag files on the blender icon and it will open the file up. I would really like to get back into blender, as I am particularly interested in the game engine (specifically the physics, I love physics!) help would be appreciated! thank you, and happy blending!

Boy, are you saying that when you click file->open you dont get a directiory? or you do but when you select a .blend file it wont open?

And when you select an object and add a new material and texture you are unable to load an image as a texture?

… im saying that it just freezes when i open anything OUT of blender, everything.

are you sure you’re not lost in space, assimilated by the Borg, in possession of the ring? I suggest you just start blender by itself, then use the file->open command.

Try deleting the file called B.blend, that’s the default, startup file and Blender will generate a new one when it starts.

This is horrible… Now it wont even open at all! I do realize that blender isnt native to windows (and I will be getting back into SuSe 10.2) but maybe you guys could decipher something out of this error report:
