Blender Copy/Paste to separate objects?

I am working on my latest model, a 9mm Browning small arm.

While modelling a part of my object one, I decided it should be part of object two. I can’t find any blender copy/paste functions, so what should i do?

Select the part(s) you want to separate and press P.
