I have a problem in select an empty to make it parent. Blender crash all the time. I can’t work properly. And armature do the same things when change in blue to work with or make it parent too. I installed the version 2.x without uninstall the old version I had (1.8). But now with only the new version install, the problem seems to persist. Does anyone know how to resolve it ?
Hi face,
I don’t recognise the problem you are witnessing
(but maybe I’m not unserstanding what you are
describing). Perhaps upload an example file that
illustrates the problem.
Regards,
Chris
I don’t know how to send a file. The problem seems to occur when I select one bone in editmode or in the second selection. And the same problem occurs with the empty when selected. That all I can say. Is something to do with Windows ? As this problem used not to happen a long time ago.
Thanks for your reply to anyone.

I’ve seen the same problem. I’m using the windows version when I see the problem. I’ll try and reproduce it on Linux if I get time tonight.
A crash occurs when I try to select an armature by clicking on it with the RMB or using a bounding box. I can sometimes get around the problem by rotating the 3d view before attempting to select the armature. The problem usually occurs in Pose mode.
Oh, I forgot to mention that I’ve uploaded the blender file I’m using. It can be found at http://www.flat8.com/MAN1.blend
Just out of interest, how do you upload attachments to messages? I was hoping to upload this file as part of my previous reply.
i got this happening on the computers at my school, they were win NT, with no 3d cards,
try updating your 3d card drivers
The problem does not occur on my Linux box (RedHat 8).
I updated my windows video driver (Intel Extreme 82865G) and the problem seems to have gone away
thanks for your help.
I had something similar happening when I first got the computer I am now using. I finally realized that it was a graphics card issue with my setup. If I turn off hardware acceleration in my graphics card Blender runs fine; if hardware acceleration is on things crash like crazy every time I try to select a camera.
Not exactly the same, but similar enough to be worth checking, no?
My Blender running with an Interl graphic chipset used to crash when I selected an Empty. Solved the problem by updating the video driver.
I have this problem with empties and cameras (not with armatures, though). I’ve found a temporary solution is to make sure nothing else is selected already, and then to carefully click within the area defined by the axes. I often have to zoom in first.
Does this happen in the newest version (2.33a)?
From the 2.33a release notes:
- IBM graphics cards: they crashed on selecting Empty object, or on objects with drawtype ‘name’. Coded a bypass that doesnt draw this while selecting.
