Blender crashes after HWE update to Ubuntu 14.0.5LTS

I did an update to the HWE stack in response to a demand from the software update manager. I’m somewhat sorry I did that. Now Blender crashes (both 2.76b and 2.77a). The crash occurs when opening the user config menu and selecting the ‘System’ tab. A crash can also be produced when selecting Cycles Render from the main window. Using the default factory settings doesn’t help.

Here is the crash dump: http://pastebin.com/NsENKyKn

I’m guessing there’s a library buggered up as a result of the HWE update, but I’m not sure where to look or what needs to be done to fix this. Any help would be appreciated.
(Intel i9-64bit, NVidia drivers 370.23 - GTX 970)

It is a problem of nvidia driver 370.23:
https://developer.blender.org/T49113

Note that this is a non-stable beta driver.
Brecht has already reported the probleam to nvidia, and the problem will be fixed in the next release of the driver.
By now, you use the latest stable version of the driver.

Confirmed the 370.23 drivers are broken. Rolling back to NVidia 367.44 drivers fixed the problem. Thanks.
