It was working fine last week when i rendered 8 high resolution sprites that i made. And it worked alright a couple days ago when i rendered a wire tangle mesh thingy that i made.
I rendered the tangle mesh [wires looping around each other] @ 800x600 resolution, and when i bumped it up, it crashed for the first time. Now every time after, it crashes regardless of dimensions or complexity of the scene. Can’t even render the default cube.
I’m on a Mac Book Pro, so i just dragged the app from the application folder to the trash [as that is apparently the extent of uninstalling something] and downloaded a fresh copy of Blender. Problem still occurs though with this new copy.
However, the fresh copy opens up with my custom theme, which i had saved to my desktop. So the uninstall must not have worked.
Regardless, i have launched the program using the new .app in it’s unextracted folder [on my desktop]
I have a nagging suspicion though that a fan in my MBP has crapped out. Just in general programs are crashing more often i’ve found. It was making bad noises last week, but it only lasted a couple days…i was hopeful that it was not a permanent problem.
if you call apple they will make you reset the computer
hold (ctr+command+r+p) until the computer makes 3 sounds (when it’s turned off)
then if that doesn’t fix it - you take it to the apple store and they try to get it to make the noise
(and then it probably won’t)
you can check your hardware with techtool delux (it’s on your install DVD)
maybe your memory has crapped out - but I don’t think memory makes noise when it goes bad
you can also DL a widget called istat pro which will tell you the fan speeds and temps etc
but noise = bad
call apple
(my screen intermittently makes a whistling noise - but it didn’t make it when I took it to the apple store
but I still have another year on my warranty so if it happens regularly enough to take it back again - I will)
I did some more testing. I found that only the last two blend files i made cause the comp to crash. My mum has one of the newer macs, i installed the latest version of blender on her comp and tried to render them there. Still crashed. However, anything older than those two blend files renders fine, regardless of complexity. So there must be something wrong with the files.
The sad part is that one of these two files is the metal tangle thingy that i made. I can’t remake it, it was one of those on the fly kinda things. I’d hate to lose it. The other file is no-biggie.
