blender crashes on my model.

Hi all,
I am working on a model of a young giraffe and it is going great. but… the moment I want to render it, blender crashes.
I want to render it in cycles and the model has several hair particle systems.

I tried several suggestions I found online like switching between cpu and gpu, and the other way around. Changing the limit size of the textures, etc, etc. At a certain moment my mac mini with windows 10 still could handle the file, while my pc with windows 10 couldn’t, but now blender also crashes on my mac mini.

It is a fairly straightforward model with a multiresolution modifier, I am using Andrew Prices pro-light suite for the lights and it has 11 hair particle systems (I split one big one up because I figured it could be because of the size of that one). The file itself is only 11 mb.

Edit: Blender crashes during rendering when building-up the BHV. (on my pc almost immediately on my mac mini after the build up. and on the mac the build up takes forever. )

Is there something else I can do? And if there isn’t, is there someone or some renderfarm I could ask or use to render it?

my system: Intel i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40 ghz 64-bits 8 gb ram. Videocard: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460. total available graphic memory 4095 mb, assigned video memory 1024 mb, system video memory 0 mb, shared video memory 3071 mb

updating the drivers of the videocard gave an additional 1024 mb graphic memory, so now it’s 5110 mb

How much memory does the render use ?

Can’t tell yet. just a moment, I will try again.

in preview render at it’s max 314.92 m, so not very much. now I am going to try to render.

memory even doesn’t show up before it crashes :-/

I opened my windows app where I can see memory use and such. Blender sky-rocket and above 89% (app 7 gb memory use) it crashes.

Try.
Render small res.
Render without hair.
Render without bone.
…to find out whats causing it to crash.

going to do that
