Blender crashes when I try to render with a backbuf

Hi,
I am new to blender

I made a model, and tried to render it with a background pic, which I chose as backbuf in render menu (F10).
For some reason, blender crashes when I try to render.

It is also very sporadic. on a few occasions I managed to render, and a minute later, on a second render - a crash.

are there any rules about backbuf? image type? size etc. that can be used as bkgrnd?

any advice?

10x.

Same here as well. It doesn’t happen everytime but near enough. 2.40 crashed once when the backbuf resolution was higher than the render resolution but 2.41 won’t play nice with any backbuf image.

I’m running an ATI (AIW) Radeon 7500 card and hav never had one minutes trouble with Blender or the infamous “ATI slowdown” so I don’t know if that is a factor. Other items to mention are AMD-Thunderbird 1GHz w/ 1Gig Ram.

Currently having to render with 2.40 or below.

It’s an old problem, probably related to Graphics Cards as it only happens to some people. .bmp images seem to also give problems, though I see that .bmp is now supported since 2.40.

Try rendering to DispView (F10), which seems to work, at least half the time. Failing that use a Plane as the background with your pic mapped to it.

I’ll those thanks but for me it’s most certainly a new problem. Starting (really) with 2.41. I’ve never had this issue going all the way back to 2003.

Try using alt-B to define a render frame just inside the backdrop picture. You lose the very outside of the backdrop, but it renders without problems.

I had the same problem with backbuf image.
After searching on the Blender development pages I found that this problem might have something to do with the sampling filter for antialiasing.
So I figured out that for me the solution was to use the “Box” sampling filter and now I do not have the problem anymore.
Box sampling is not the best, I think, but at least it works.

Btw backbuf does not work for me at all in any of the CVS builds. It only gives me red dots on black background.
It seems to me that the developers would like to leave out this Backbuf button from the Output panel and in the future we will have to use the Composite Nodes , but in return we get more flexibility.

I have the same problem but there is a work around. Load you image or movie as a texture in the world view and hit the paper button and you can render it with the osa on.

I think this a new problem too.
