Blender crashes when parenting bone to object with automatic weights

Hello,

When I’m trying to parent bones to arms with automatic weights blender will freeze then a few minutes later will crash. I’m unsure with what I’m doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

How many vertices do your arms have?

Have you selected the mesh first and then the bones?

Looks like it only has 1 vertice somehow. Also, when I go to edit mode the mesh turns black as if theres no vertices or faces to even click on. I took a screenshot to show you what I mean

Yes I’ve done that and blender would then freeze and crash

The mesh is very dense. You have over 4 million verts in it:

It looks all black because it’s so densely packed with mesh.

That 1 means you only have one vert selected, but 4 mil and change total.

That could be what’s causing your crash. You’ll probably want to retopologize that.
