I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in here. I’m using blender in my day job as a concept / bg artists and there’s a lot of things I love about it so far.
My absolute biggest issue that I face almost daily is viewport performance when polycount starts getting high. Over 5 million and I’m gonna wanna bash may head against the keyboard, forget trying to edit any kind of dense mesh. My rig isn’t a necessarily potato either (5900x, 2070s, 64gb ram)
I can’t speak for others but from reading this thread I get the impression a lot of other people are feeling that way too.
For me personally, high poly meshes are a very frequent reality of my use in blender, but it seems like the performance has pretty much stayed the same (or deproved) over recent releases while the devs are adding loads of new features. As much as I do love the new features, I would vastly rather see edit and viewport performance improved if it’s possible.
So that leads me to this question, is there a way for the developers to hear our voice? If enough of us ask would it become a priority? Is it a technical impossibility and only possible for other software? Or do the developers only work on what they deem as important or exciting and interesting?
My fingers are crossed this gets improved, but currently it just feels over looked.
