hmmm… should blender support depth of field? (focal blur) [I think]
the zblur plugn works again in 2.28, but integrated DOF would be nice.
[…along with vector blur]

Thats nice you made a poll to ask this question… but thats not the hard part… you have to get a developer to work on it. As it happens, I believe there is a developer working towards this goal. I don’t know how far he is from being finished with it or even figuring out what direction to go with it… but it is something thats being looked at. Myself I’d rather have the external renderer support finished for renderman… then you would have DOF and a very very well developed selection of renderers.
sounds cool, we’ll just hafta run this by the coders a couple of times… I personally have not checked out renderman, but it sounds cool… :þ
Renderman is expensive… but its made by pixar and has been used on many many films and animations. There are free renderman compliant renderers out there that follow the same specs and have very similar features and quality. Like 3Delight.
hmm yeah, integrated DOF would be great…

that would be…
…awesomee…
Are you sure it works in 2.28? I keep getting red screens and error messages in the console (WinXP pro)…could it be just me?
YEAH YEAH YEAH Integrated DOF…and Vector-based motion blur (is that what you mean?)
You know what would be nice too…DOF in realtime…
I think 3Delight is free for non-commercial use only.
So I am for DOF - and improving what is already in Blender, so that people use it more (since rendering is already included, it is worth adding a little more effort to make it complete), and have to go to other renderers only for some exclusive need, not just for the sake of using an external renderer.
Yet I still think the question should not be whether DOF is needed or not - it very obviously is needed, - the question should be more in the light of what the whole list of tasks are, and what Blender is loosing if we are choosing DOF over the rest of tasks.
Fortunatelly, the dev team seems to be very focused and working towards the best of the application in general, rather then concentrating on our shouts of what we think would be nice and cool

it looks blurred, right?

I only get a red image when I do zblur… any ideas?
be sure you downloaded the latest version at http://www-users.cs.umn.edu/~mein/blender/plugins/sequence.html

the motionblur in blender is atually quite good, better than 3d sdtudio max.
hmm, well… now I get black!
ok, so with the new one, as soon as I press the “showz” front or back button, it goes completely pitch BLACK–
in 2.28
andy:
yah!! it works with the latest!! cool thanks for the tip!
show z[buffer] is only for debugging purposes.
have a look at the official site for a complete discription of the plugin:

figure I must point out to you guys that even using just blender
and version 2.25
and no plugins (just blender)
dof is not impossible, but it does take some tweaking and time to render
