anyone thought about using blender for simple architectural design. i am not talking about complex shapes like a buddha head design that has to be modeled in another software. I want to discuss the possibility of importing other models into blender as simpler shapes an be designed in google sketch up and other software.
Last time i used Sketchup… it was a pathetic program that was barely hanging on with the support of add-ons… No clue how can you even say that Blender is worse or inferior. I highly doubt that much changed but I can be wrong
Blender can easily do what you are looking for, I think there are themes and window/workplace that are great for architecture
Still in the end this is just my opinion
So what’s the problem? You can design and model anything in Blender, including a Buddha head, furniture and more
You can import pretty much any 3D file format into Blender
If you are doing general “architectural design,” you probably need CAD to do the actual design. However, thanks to Blender, you are not limited to the CAD software’s ability to “render” what you have just designed. Industry-standard interchange file formats are well-supported.
I don’t think modelling that table is possible in Blender, sorry.
Every single thing that has ever been built in the real world can be built in Blender.
There are overlays that you can have on:
Select an object that you want to edit and tab into edit mode. In the upper right-hand corner of the viewports there will be a mesh edit mode overlay Right next to the viewport overlays. Hitting the mesh edit mode overlay you will get a drop-down sub menu, and you can toggle on the measurements for faces and edges as well as angles.
Pressing the keyboard shortcut G and dragging the face/edge/vert will display all the measurements on the mesh.
If you want more control over the measurement making it more precise, Blender3D ships with a couple free add-ons which will have the enabled go to edit->preferences->add-ons and/or extensions (version 4.2 and up).
One add-on that Is used often for CAD are the measure it tool. Them may be more add-ons that might be of use to you.
Hope this helps!
i might try that
If you are creating simple designs Blender can do that. Blender can do complicate things as well, but for architecture, you may be better served by a hard surface modeler like Plasticity. A step up from there would be to use something like Rhino 3D where you could then go on and create construction documents.
This would be overkill unless these architectural pieces are going to be manufactured in reality. OP hasn’t said what the purpose of these assets will be, but I’m guessing it’s for rendering, not manufacturing.
Yes, as stated it would be a “step up” and appropriate if construction documents were desired.
Yes you absolutely can do arquitectural design with blender, if you care about accuracy blender is accurate enough. There is also a few addons that significantly improve the process but you still can use default tools in blender for the process. Some to mention is angle tool, construction lines, cad transform , archimesh, archipack, measurelt, box cutter, and some more here
This site (see also there abotu page)…
seems to use blender for their wood furniture design.
And this…
is eight years old…
