I was reading the Blender.org Forum just awhile ago and somebody was mentioning that there were lots of errors in the typing and a virus on the cd, is this true, and if anybody has it, is it worth 40$

It depends on your level of ability with blender. If you are an advanced user like saluk,pooba,teeth e.t.c No. There is nothing in there that is going to help you beyone what you already know. If you are a beginning user or intermediate user like myself then its really worth the money.
My cd came with a printed note stuck right on the cd envelope flap that identified the directory and the file that the virus was on and telling me NOT to go to that directory or run the file. I virus checked the cd with NAV and yes that is the only virus identified on the cd. I can understand Ton and his partners not wanting to destroy thousands of already burned cds just to take care of one file.
I have not found any errors on the cd or on in the book in the two months that I have had the gamekit. It is very well written. MUCH MORE well written then the 2.0 Guide I might add, which cost me 14$ more.
I’m new to 3D graphics as well as Blender and I found the Blender Game Kit very useful. (I am an experience computer progammer.) I went through about half the book on a Saturday.
All the tutorials worked as they were supposed to. There are a few typos, but nothing that you can’t figure out pretty quickly.
As far as the virus goes… that was pretty irritating to get the virus notification after I ordered it… even though that information was available before. However, I am inclined to forgive this because of how incredibly powerful the whole Blender application is. (Also, the price is right.)
I felt that $40 was pretty reasonable and kind of considered it my donation to the cause.
If you are doing game development or animation, this is the book to get. Otherwise, if you are interested in mostly modeling and graphics you will want to go with the Blender 2.0 guide. I have both and refer to both frequently.
If you are planning on using armatures, get the gamekit. I had a very difficult time following the armatures discussion in the 2.0 guide and the tutorial in the gamekit is well done and fairly comprehensive.

I have the Game Kit and loved reading everybit of it. Yes there are a few typos, (I’m a graphic designer/typesetter by trade, so I’m found them humourous), but the typos don’t take away anything from the value of the info. Well worth 40.00 in my opinion.
