Blender games booter

Hi

why don’t we create a game booter for blender games

like in this image

http://bb.1asphost.com/temsah/aasd.JPG

i have played this game

http://mobileart.org/spaceguards.jsp

and i saw it’s main menu (as window)

so why don’t we create something like this

then all the members will create menus for there games without making them as 3d in the game (this will make it easier for them)

ok …

we can upse this as header image

http://bb.1asphost.com/temsah/soldier.JPG

so we need a visual basic programmer

byebye …

I’d love to see other people’s game booters, but I’m totally against one that we all just copy. If we all used the same one it would be really lame.

What you mean like to install games?

And you want a M$ Visual Basic programmer? Thats kind of limiting for non-M$ users. Why not a python programmer?

Yea whats a Blender games booter ??

i believe he means a game booter - not to install, but he wants a program that, when run, will give you different options to start a blender game with. To an experienced programmer, it doesnt seem like it would be much of a challenge - a window would pop up with the game’s logo, and would give different graphics options to run the game in - see 3dguru’s first link. The program would just run the EXE with different handles (ex. -m) to enable the different graphics options - resolution, mipmapping on/off, color depth. The different app handle options are in the BGE docs somewhere.

As far as I know these options can only be changed when starting the blender exe, so I think a game booter like this would be the only way of doing it. It would be a heck of a lot cooler than the method of using several shortcuts or Bat files.

To create something like that, you need to know some Python. With wxPython (which is a lib) you can create crossplatform interfaces that look the same as the theme of the OS were it’s running, Linux, Windows or Mac, it doesn’t matter. With that you can create a standard interface for such things. Personally I’m trying out wxPython now for my Python socket network to create an interface for a chat client and the server itself. It’s not that easy but with some effort you can create really amazing interfaces.:smiley:

I have tried wxPython in the last week. If you use wxGlade, you can very easily design a gui. The only thing you have to do yourself is code what happens when a e.g. a button is pressed.

@anoncompboy
that what i meant
@jd-multi
i have no time to learn programing with these complex things …
visual basic was used to do the

game
thanks :slight_smile:

and thank all i have readed all posts

Do you mean something like an autorun menu?

somthing you can try is to use blender to make a menu you can use it to start another game file i believe i dont konw about other variables though
somthing to think about

I have coded visual basic for a while, a long time ago. Creating a GUI that way is very easy. Allthough you are struck with quite some limitations.

you can not, for instance, make your GUI which you have created in windows, for example, look diferent on a different user-system. for that, a Mac/Linux user might suddely see a Windows popupwindow and there is no way to fix it, to make it look like a Mac/Linux one, since you need to recompile.

A different obstacle a Visual Basic programming is the fact that you are to reach the coder trough an office program. So again, Mac/Linux users are greatly ignored at the use of VBA. this consisting of the way of compiling. A program coded with the “Office” codelanguage compiled in Windows are most likely to be considered as some “Office” program itself. the problem here lies: Can other user-systems run these Officeprograms? ompile fauls are there.

I hope this helps, I would also advise you to use very “transparent” codinglanguages like WxGlade or WxPython as the others did. If though you still want to stck with VBA because you either don’t give a damn about Mac/Linux users or you have a good reason, I’d always be glad to help you out.

Much luck finding a good and easy codinglanguage.

Jacco;

If you want to use the BASIC language, then I sugget you try KBASIC, it has support for all Operating Systems and it acts similar to Visual Basic. Its also free.

http://www.kbasic.com/download.html

thanks all … :slight_smile:

Hey kit, about kbasic, I dlded it and like it, but is there ANY tutorial on how to get started?

Jacco;

Its basically Visual Basic, so you could use Visual Basic tutorials.

I dont use Kbasic, I like using Gambas but Gambas is only for Linux so its not good for a boot loader.

But if you have any Visual Basic knowledge it should be easy to move to Kbasic.

I know, and I have that knowledge but I need to know how the software works.

Cya

Jacco;

Edit1: nvm, I figured it out allready

Try the help menu in the program. It was built to look and feel like VB so it shouldnt be hard to know what to do.

i think that i have too look for a forum that contains visual basic users and ask one of them to create a one …

thanks

this forum contains one…
But thats realy advanced. what you are aiming for is a game booter like steam but offline.

I could have a go if you give me certain directions.

Jacco;

I could have a go if you give me certain directions
.
sorry , i did not hear of this expression before

give me certain directions (see my location) …
what do you mean ?

=
thx …
