Blender guru competition wip

Hey there! So I’m making this bot. Part of it is modeled now, some parts added from my kitbash folder, that I’m also trying to create at the moment. Now I’d be happy if someone with good eyes could check this guy proportions ;). Then if anyone knows any tips for hard surface detailing (but adding details in such places that it could really work, not just randomly) I’d be happy to hear them. Also if anyone has a suggestions for what kind of details I should add to this bot please let me know, cuz I ran out of Ideas). Oh, at the end it’s suppose to look like the old tech bot (all that rusty bolted maybe, old style, but still advanced, etc), don’t pay attention to current materials, they’re temporary. Awaiting for feedback.

its lower leg looks oddly short, most noticibly in the side view

Okay, worked just a little bit more. Added some armor plates, but still waitng for detailing suggestions and hopefully fixed proportions.

P.S. Those three big spherical shapes should act like knee joint, so you can have orientation for proportions by those.

So, this bot modeling is almost done I believe and for now, I’m going to move to another character necessary for scene. I’m also going to try to learn rendering with layers, because otherwise I wont finish this. Any feedback is still welcome :wink:

Thanks Small Troll! Probably for a bg contest. I just couldn’t resist doing this theme ;). Also it was a good chance to test my mentioned kitbash folder (I’m going to keep filling this after contest, because it’s really empty :wink: )

I’m glad that I’ve started these too characters together, that’s why I don’t need to start second one from scratch. I had an old female base sculpt which I took as a basemesh. Then I quickly and simply retopologized it (I mainly needed basemesh for armor proportions) and started to work on armor. This ones Idea is to create high tech mech/armor suit. I really need feedback on this too, because I haven’t done a lot of females before…

Progress of a second character so far. Back is the most important part of it. I really can’t decide how to joint her legs… Criticues are welcome.

its not exactly flattering and i think her boobs are too high.
i would pull the waist in a little to give the suit a more feminine contour and as a preference, make the helmet less boxy.
is this going to be an animation or just a still?

Thanks for critics, will fix them once back on the pc. It’s just going to be a still image. I know nothing about animating for now. I want to master one field first. About the image, i think i can tell that the idea behind this is to create sorta fight scene. Where would fight old tech machine vs something high tech, that’s why I want to make quite sexy female in high tech armor. I’m also going to model environment, but lets keep that a secret for know :wink:

Quite good actually. Maybe the female pose is a bit weird. Looks liek her leg is broken or something. And the female doesnt look too sexy for me. If your going for sexy than make some of her skin show. And the overall shadign looks like plastic and not metal. Also it looks like everything is just toys. Maybe scale he whole scene up and then repositio nthe camera.

Since this is for blenderguru comp I can not show too much of a sexyness (don’t think such word exists lol) because of this :

Keep it family friendly. No overly sexual or gory images please.

I’m not sure maybe some wouldn’t be wrong, but basicaly I’d be happier if I could create a look of a sexy char only via silhouette (that’s almost what we can see of a char because of scale) . Camera, materials are just temporary for now (I want to finish modeling first), but I will have some problems with camera…

Another update. Second part of corridor probably done. Whats left:

All the details to make corridors look like two trains smashed together (quite hard)

I just hope that my pc will be able to handle all this. because even tho now there’s about 750 000 faces (my pc could render about 1.5 mil) render time is really slow. Maybe I shouldn’t use subsurf on second part of corridor? Since that almost unseen. will see.

So, unfortunately i’ve decided to change the Idea. Mainly, because last one did not worked as far as I thought it should. my new idea is to make this bot look like he’s still guarding a city which been abandoned for some time now (but maybe generators still working for extra glowing details later). I also need quite a lot of help with lightning scene. I’m aiming to something moody before storm or even during rain if I can make dynamic paint work (hopefully blenderguru tut will help). i’ll try to add image which should be close to the mood I’m looking for. Thanks for feedback.

If the robot is guarding the city than he should be standing straight or something. Right now he looks like hes about to attack. He should only start to attack when he is touched or something. And add in the female model. Lets see some progress

Okay. I think i finally figured out my idea. Bot is guarding one of the main entrance to the city from alien-ish drones, even tho the city has been abandoned for quite some time. However reactors are still working and provides some energy to the slum part of the city where the action happens. Now I only need to properly translate this via image… Some of the story will be told via posters which I plan to texture in gimp. But for now back to modeling.

P.S. I imagine that camera views as a second drone is it possible to guess that? And do I need to repose my bot? I want it to look like it’s attacking, but maybe a bit differently?
