Blender Hair to 2D

Hi Guys!
So I have this problem: I finished a fancy hair cut with settings and material, and then realised that i have to export it to unity for later use. Now, i know i could start all over with transparency planes and so on, but I really would like to keep this pretty hair effect blender does, and also not having to redo all of the work.
Does anyone have an idea how to achieve it?
A possibility I know would to convert the hair to a mesh, but that would be an INSANE amount of vertexes…
Maybe you could somehow map a finished haircut to planes and bake a texture map?

Any help is appreciated!

Thank you,

I believe you lose the hair when baking. But maybe a 2-step process might work. Render it from different angles with orthographic camera and project the images onto the mesh. Might be there also is a kind of ball projection camera which could do it with a single render, but I can’t figure it out right now.
