This collection of wiggling heads and tails might at first strike you as some type of extraterrestrial life-form, softly landing on a body of water. In reality, this is a microscopic group of charged, amphiphilic oligomers composed of “water-loving” heads and “fat-loving” tails which are used to mimic lipid bilayers. I created this gif to accompany a press release written by science writers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
