Blender in Windows XP

I installed Blender in Windows XP and starter with the manual but it looks like the commands are not doing what they supose to do.
Like b - selecting doesn’t select a group of vertices but only the upper vertices. After a bit of strungling around i finale installed Suse and tried Blender in there what did give me the correct working functions.
Does anyone know what i could do under Windows for making blender working like it should be?

Yes I know, under 3d window there’s a cube icon, it enables selecting invisible vertices, the vertices behind faces, you have to turn it on, or off, but that’s it!!

If you have the shader on ( ZKEY ) you will only be able to select the front vertices.
Turn the shader OFF or deselect the box icon to the right of the three mode (vertex, edge and face select) icons on the header.

Thank you for the tip with the z key, this was indeed the problem.
Next thing then is the mmb what is not working at all and also I can’t find another way (key) to replace this.

I solved the problem of a “non functioning” MMB by selecting no extra functionality in the mouse driver setup for the MMB. Some mouse drivers allow you to assign special functions to the MMB (like opening the Internet Explorer for example). But when you do that programs like Blender might not be able to recognize that you are pressing the MMB. Try to find an option like “not assigned”, “none” or “middle mousebutton” … something like that. Perhaps you need to play around a bit with your MMB setup.

contrrol and hold mmb and drag=zoom please watch video tutorials
