I just watched this video.
I made the realization that Blender as software has gone too far, since is not strictly focused on it’s initial intended purpose (ie making just 3D graphics) like it was 20 years ago.
Rather than becoming a multi-paradigm tool it has come up to a point to allow users from any other discipline or field to jump in and use it to make their work far better and efficiently. In this case concept artists. Is like the common consensus (the collective mind) made a decision and now actually sketching in 3D with grease pencil and mixing 2D and 3D elements at the same time is not “something cool” is “mandatory”.
More or less, having watched lots of 2D artists lately (ie Borodante and many others), is that there is a certain gravitational effect towards using 3D tools. And since 2D artists work with a precise set of features and produce a certain output (not having any other competitive alternative) essentially Blender is an easy pick for them because it does exactly what is needed.
