First off, i’m happy to b back on elysiun… er Blenderartists . Any how, I have a small yet very large problem. Here’s the scenario:
I start up blender and continue modelling as usual, then about 2-10 minutes later, blender starts to slow to a crawl.
Here’s my rig specs (Blender v2.41):
AMD Sempron 3200+ (1.8Ghz)
1Gb RAM
ATI Radeon XPress 200 (onBoard)
ATI Catalyst Control Center v1.2.2243.38605
.NET Runtime v1.1.4322.2032
I’ve scowered so many forums looking for an answer, and all I seem to find is that I need a file called atioglxx.dll which seems to be an ATI openGL library. But as far as I know (according to catalyst) i have openGL on my card. So I followed various instructions, like downloading the dll or downloading catalyst and extracting the dll, and putting it in the blender directory, however, for some reason, blender crashes upon startup.
Can someone please give me some input on this situation?
use the nvidia version of the same driver, and rename it to atioglxx.dll (not sure what the nvidia one is…maybe nvoglxx.dll??..I’m on a mac)
but that’s the answer. Or buy an nvidia card for $60.
Just for everyone else having trouble with ATI drivers:
I have a Radeon 9550, and it works with the latest drivers but has very poor performance with the menus - there is a lag when I select items in menus that is very annoying. Also, the icons did not display correctly - they were black. I sorted out this last problem by setting transparency to something different from 255 in the menu background (using Themes).
Now I also have tried to use the Nvidia nvoglnt.dll file as mentioned elsewhere, and to my surprise it seems to solve both my problems! Action with menus are much more snappy now, and the icon problem has also disappeared!
