Blender Keeps Crashing My GPU On Dense Scenes

I am trying to render a scene that has a high level of polygons in it, but then blender keeps crashing when it finishes building the scene and loads the first tile. Keeps crashing out my GPU (2x GTX 780’s). I am running 16Gb RAM (render peaks at 5GB).

How can I render my scene without Blender messing up my system?!

Use the CPU for render. As I understand it, the GPU is not able to use the system RAM but only the RAM on the grafikcard.

Your GTX’s probably have 3 or 4GB VRam, so once thats full it can’t continue to render.
