I made a character walking animation and with the help of root bone i moved my character to the destination i want, and i keyed in a standing pose after the walk cycle ends but the character goes to the p - root bone which is in different location
Set both a start and end keyframe on all the bones in the rig, and see if it improves.

the problem with your “theoretical” question is, that you might have made another mistake in your animation. But we cannot see that, because you gave us just a two sentence description.
If you want a profund answer which works for sure, i would recommend providing your blend file by copying a link to any cloud service you have (like dropbox etc) so that we
a) have all information we need to help you
b) can prove by testing with your blend file that our proposal works
Always remember that Blender is quite complex and it often can have multiple reasons why something happens in the way it does.
