Blender killing my display driver intermittently. ATI 5770

ATI 5770, Blender version 2.63a. Happens with both latest beta drivers and latest stable drivers. Every once in a while, Blender will crash, my screen will flash, and I’ll get a dialog box in the lower right corner that says “ATI has recovered from a driver crash”. After this happened 3 times, the driver died completely. My screen was a bunch of red, white, and black blocks.

The card is well maintained. I cleaned the dust out last month, and it has never misbehaved during a game. I’m doing low-poly work with less than 2000 faces, so it can’t be anything load-related.

Pretty much what it says on the Tin Alden. Somewhere, somehow blender is sending bad data to the driver causing it to fail. and after the third try or so it appears the driver gets crashed so badly that ati’s auto restart cant fix it.

Without knowing what blender is doing (but from what you’ve said, blender is crashing at the same time) its going to be all but impossible for someone like me to diagnose further.

anyone else got any ideas?

First thing to try is: update/down-date the drivers. If you’ve already tried that, I’ve got nothing.

Weird. The problem seems to have gone away. I’ve been working for a couple of hours without any issues, plus I left Blender running all night. The only additional details that I can provide about the crashing is, if I’m remembering correctly, the crashes ALWAYS happened when I was panning in object mode.

Here’s what I’m working on, if it makes a difference.
