i consider getting a ms surface pro soon, as i think it’s one of the few tablets out there that can compete with laptops in terms of performance. of course, i want to run blender on it… not for any kind of highdef-rendering or anything like that, but i wonder if it’s powerful enough for some modeling/sculpting and maybe some texturing… and a little subsurf here and there would be awesome, too
also, i’m a little concerned about the screen size… the resolution of 1920x1080 should be enough and the tablet comes with a pen, so hitting small buttons shouldn’t be a problem but is a 10.6 inch screen enough to work in blender (more or less) smoothly?
if anybody has ever tested blender on a surface pro, sharing your experience with this setup would be great! how is the overall performance e.g. while navigating the viewport? and if it’s not performing well, can anyone suggest an alternative?
yeah, aside from screen size, the HD4000 was actually the component that made me worry if blender will perform well on this tablet… but do i really need good OpenGL performance? i can live without GLSL shading and i don’t really need BGE - at least not while working mobile. but i do need things like modeling/navigating/sculpting to work ok…
i can imagine that painting/sculpting on a tablet is awesome - can’t wait to try this! and you saying ZBrush is working fine raises my hopes that sculpting in blender might also
have you, or anybody, tested blender on a HD4000? surface pro, or maybe any other device with that chip?
and you saying ZBrush is working fine raises my hopes that sculpting in blender might also
Don’t assume in any way that if zbrush works well, sculpting in blender will also.
absolutely right! i just thought that if the tablet can handle zbrush, it might as well be powerful enough for blender in sculpt mode. but i guess i’d have to test that to be sure… i don’t assume that zbrush and blender sculpt mode technically work similar in any way…
