Blender on the cloud

Has anyone managed to get Blender working on an AWS EC2 instance? Im not really sure how to get Blender to run on a virtual machine with no display.

In my attempt I have managed to get it to install 2.69 r61235 but running $ blender gives this error

libdc1394 error: Failed to initialize libdc1394
Color management: using fallback mode for management
Unable to open a display
Aborted (core dumped)

Im not really certian how to overcome this error given that I am running Blender from the command line, and as such there do not seem to be a-lot of options availible.

Any ideas would be appriciated.

You need to call blender -b <blend file> -<any extra arguments>, I’ve had hit/miss support with this, sometimes blender won’t launch in command line mode and getting needed libraries working is a huge pain.

You might want to take a look at this blender conference video:

James Yonan created a couple of scripts that do nearly ALL the work for you.
Unfortunately not too many people have seen it and thanked him for all the effort
