Blender Textures

Hi - I’m new here so I hope you’ll forgive me if I’m missing any protocols.
I am relatively new to Blender and really not too good with the menus and panels.

I want to create a simple leaf object with a photo texture.
I have been trying to follow a tutorial but keep hitting a problem.

When I go to the textures buttons using F6 or via the panel - I don’t see and channels - just the preview panel with the four buttons Mat World Lamp and Brush.

How do I get the channels to show?

Thanks
Paul

Ok - I fiddled about until I found it.
Now - how do I get my alpha mask to work in my textures?
Nothing seems to make it work as mask.

Can I use any B/W image - jpeg bitmap etc?
Must it have anything set up or is a simple B/W image ok?

Hi,

I am assuming you mean texture channels, if that’s the case then attached is a picture showing what Blender considers to be the texture channel slots, highlighted in yellow.

It may help to point us to the tutorial you are doing so we can see what its referring to.

Thanks a lot.
Following this tutorial:http://www.blender3dclub.com/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=51

I have found the channels and realised that I must save my alpha mask image in png format.

Now - can anyone help me to export this plane object with image texture so that it will work in a programme like Vue?
Currently my exports are loading into Vue without any sign of the texture image.
