Blender trying to connect to internet?? how come??

Ummm…
How come Blender is trying to connect to the internet when i render scenes?

This is behavior seem to be pretty new…
never happened before… so whats going on… ?

is it looking for updates, looking for a renderfarm…
whats the story… ?
until i know my firewall blocks blender from internet.

Have you installed any plugins lately? In perticular a renderfarm plugin? are you running buildbot / graphicall builds? if graphicall build, have they included a renderfarm patch? have you tried restoring to factory settings?

i have tried several different builds now…
and all new builds try to connect to the internet…
trying to find out why… this is without enabling any addons.
and running the builds as portable.

see… this is with a recent MinGW build that in compiled myself…
it does the same thing with buildbot builds…
right at the end of a cycles render…

now this a multicast thing…
is it sending thumbnails of what people are rendering? without their knowledge?

If so i consider that mental rape or intellectual theft, however you want to look at it.

i understand some people have no imagination,
but being a thief is worse than being trite.

Thats strange… but its worth to take a look at it. If this happens in build bots i would say its a problem with your firewall, i dont think such thing could happen in trunk blender.

But maybe you could sniff it with wireshark to see what information blender tries to send, and to whom.

are you using the online cycles matlib ???

That’s not Internet IP address but a “multicast address”.

I suppose Blender is searching for network hard drives or something. :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit: Ah, you already mentioned that. Strange enough I couldn’t find any references in the source code. Maybe it’s code library or python? I wonder if this happens on other operating systems…

Maybe ffmpeg? Or some library that does network broadcasting?

try to make a bug report and ask questions then see what you get as asnwer!

i don’t see it in the last SVN i have now
but before that i did see a problem i think with material lib i think!

but i don’t think it was trying to connect !

salutations

Maybe better to use the official release rather than a build. I use builds to compare, but haven’t seen them trying to connect.

Just pull the plug so it can’t.

Did you ever discover the cause? I’ve been having the same issue with Blender. As in your case, it only started in the past month or so.

I am running Blender 2.64 Windows 64 bits r52731.

(I did install matlib a while ago but I’ve upgraded Blender since then and I haven’t reinstalled it.)

Thanks
