Blender very slow

I started using Cycles Render, and I am very close to finishing my project. However, Blender is being extremely slow now. For example: to click on something, I have to wait about 10-15 seconds before the object activates. This is pretty much the case with everything I do. Every change I make takes about 15 seconds to process, and sometimes longer.

Also, when loading my project in the first place, it can take up to a minute or two.

The computer I use is a 12-core mac pro tower, that has 24 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 memory. It isn’t an old computer, and when my work bought it they got the nearly the best specs in everything. It’s top end, supposed to handle a program like Blender.

Included in m project are two particle systems, but I’m not sure it’s supposed to have this kind of an effect on the computer can it? In Blender Render engine, I have a different project that is not slow at all, though it doesn’t include a particle system, so perhaps the particle systems are to blame here?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I like to get this project done for work by the end of next week at the most.

I think the particle systems are too blame. But that depends on how much particle there is. You can lower the amount of particle drawn in the interface (somewhere in the particle settings) to see if it makes any difference.

I would suggest that you move your particle systems and maybe some high poly objects to separate layers and to only turn them on if you need them. That should help the problem. Although you can go to your modifiers to turn of the complete particle system for the 3d view port by clicking the eye icon on the modifier added for the particle system.
