:eyebrowlift::mad:TALKING POINT:yes::no:
As it stands you need to enter a minimum of three models to enter the contest, however you can enter more than three if you want (and have the time!).
In that case I’ve been applying the rule that you get to show the model in one image for each model (see BackBONE’s entry in this thread).
What do you think? Only three images in the voting thread each or should I reward the hard work of those who model more than three entries?

Agent Zade: you should animate that panda!

Hey, loads of entries this time!

First off, Why wheren’t My thumbs used?, I created them for a reason…, so all of my thumbnails would be 160x120 and so that you wouldn’t vote based off of the low quality version, but you would see the high-res version…, :frowning:
I am just wondering why, Don’t take any offense! :o

Secondly, I can’t recall for some reason :eek:
Are we allowed to vote? For some reason I am thinking we arn’t supposed to…

If I could vote, I would vote “BackBONE” because of the “good” modeling NOT because he had 5 entries… with a second of Lumpycow, mainly because of the panda head… :wink:

Now on the talking point…

I would say if the rule is “model 3” then you should only have “3” in the voting thread, but you can do w/e you want in the entry thread, or the rule should be changed to model 3-6

Either way…, just my 2cs

Cheers,
~Marslyr

Hi there,
in my opinion both would be fair.
I would apreciate if all pics show up in the voting thread, but even if you decide to restrict it to 3 pics, i would still try to model all just to find out if i can make it in time. :eyebrowlift:
On one hand thouse who can´t model fast will maybe think its a little unfair, on the other hand i think it will be an incitement to others as well. In the end quality matters, not quantity.

@Gikkios: Like your aqueduct, but what is thouse thing next to your screwdrivers?

@Agent Zade: Your screwdriver is cool:cool:. And i like your material settings. The Caps of the mushrooms look espacialy good.

Unlike the weekend challenges everybody gets thumbnails in the voting threads.
To do this quickly I generate thumbnails and links etc in one go.

If I pick and mix it’d slow things down unless everybody produced thumbnails.
As it is I don’t have a lot of time to spare on a friday evening (just look at the amount of times I’ve been late putting up the voting thread), so I’d rather stick to what I’m doing currently

People really shouldn’t be voting based on thumbnails but should look at all the renders so in theory that shouldn’t be a problem although I realise that it may happen in practice.

Everybody gets one vote, you’re supposed to vote for the best set so if you decide that your set is the best I can’t stop you!

I think I’ll limit it to three images in the voting thread… Thanks for your feedback Marslyr

DeaDEnD: if you do more than three entries can you let me know which ones to use. Thanks!

Hey!

@blackcougar
Thanks for the quick response…

I guess I was just a little confused, because the two previous times I had given you thumbnails, you used them…

Here
And Here

I hope you understand my confusion and know that I won’t do it again!

Cheers,
~Marslyr

RenderRoo I gave you a vote because I liked your simple yet very clear style. Great work every one as always Agent zade and back bone are great entries.

@Marslyr

thanks for your understanding Marslyr, your confusion is completely understandable! :smiley:
I have been experimenting with different ways of doing the thumbnails recently and I’ve found that batch creating seems to be the fastest way. :slight_smile:

I like your renders btw

@blackcougar

Thanks for understanding my understanding… :wink:

But really, If this way is easy for you, then do it by all means, I am just happy that you keep spending the time to moderate these contests!

And thanks! :smiley:

Cheers,
~Marslyr

eheh i have idea to model a big big screw but when watched the clock I have noticed the time to post was little to the close!!I have had panic!! and I have posted the second and the third job incomplete : (

Yeah, I wish. I’m still trying to figure out how to do the more complicated animations:confused:… Maybe someday. Thanks BackBONE and grafixsuz.

Thank you. I am not good at doing lighting and different things but each time I do these I learn something new.

Hey BlackCougar Appreciating the work you are doing.
As an improvement to the challenge: Since it is a modelling challenge posting orhto wires from side top and front should be obligatory.
And I think it would be best if all contestents are obliged to use the default grey material from blender. But this is just my opinion.
For those that want to show off :wink: I think it would be nice if we could allow one beauty render which can be textured.
BTW are displacements, bumps or normal maps allowed?

Sounds quite interesting musk!, although my question would be…

If the Blender Weekend challenge isn’t a modeling challenge, why is the BWDC?

But if it is a modeling challenge, your idea, will make the voting based more on the modeling!

Cheers,
~Marslyr

@Marslyr:

AFAIK the weekend challenge focuses on a completed work so voting is based on originality, lighting, composition, texturing and modeling.

There are lot’s of very good blender modelers who don’t stand a chance of winning a weekend challenge because they are not so good at texturing or lighting.

Haker and I came up with the idea of the week day challenge while we were IM’ing as we had been looking at the hardcore modeling challenges over at cgsociety and we thought that this would be a great idea to do at blenderartists for all the modelers who don’t like the smc’s and don’t do too well in the weekend challenges either.

The original idea was to create five models each week but that has been trimmed down to three to get more people to join in ;).

@musk

  1. Beauty Renders: Beauty renders are absolutely ok in the entries thread but I won’t be putting them in the voting thread as they would distract too much from the modelling.
    So just make sure that you post an untextured render as well so you don’t miss out!

  2. Wireframes: It may seem surprising to a lot of you guys who know blender inside out, but I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been asked how to get wireframe renders out of blender!
    If you post wireframes they will be included in the voting thread, however I really don’t want to make them mandatory as I think that it could stop some people entering the challenge.

EDIT:
3. Bump Maps etc:
I try to pick model topics so that you won’t need to use bump maps, however if you do feel that you have to use them please post an alternative render without them as well.
Using textures as a ‘brush’ for the sculpting mode is allowed. ie using a inverted-bump texture for creating pores on a hand in sculpt mode etc.

congrats to BackBONE BWDC #13 Winner! :slight_smile:
