Blender Week Day Challenge #18 (Entries Closed)

Welcome to the Blender Week Day Challenge #18!

Challengers need to pick three items off the list in all, two from one category and one from the other. An example would be to pick two from the organic list and one from the Inorganic list, or vice versa. Texturing is allowed, but include an untextured image of your model. The untextured image will be the one used in the voting thread.

For examples of previous entries please see the gallery

All the models should be original. You can use any software you want as long as you use Blender somewhere in your modeling workflow. Also please state any non-blender software you have used for your model.

Note: If you post up more than one render of your model (excluding wireframes) please state which one we should use for the voting thread.

Deadline Extended: 18:00 GMT (12:00 Noon Central Time) Friday 21st December 2007

Organic:

Donkey
Wise Men
Christmas Tree

Inorganic:

Christmas Presents
Stockings
Chimney

NOTE: I hope you’re enjoying the christmas ‘theme’ …

Hey,
I do like the theme…

I’m going to try to make time for this, <Placeholder>

Looking to have a go at this one (heh heh)

Is there a page that describes the overall concept of the weekday challenge? I really like the gallery page but it feels incomplete without some sort of explanation of what a weekday challenge is all about. I would like to link to it but I think it needs some more general info on it. Maybe blenderartists could create a separate forum for this since there seems to be quite a few challenges and they sort of get mashed in with other misc. challenges.

What I’m thinking is that it would be great if the gallery page could also serve as a sort of homepage for the weekday challenges. The latest challenge could be announced there (also part of the RSS feed), you have the gallery in place, the general rules could be explained there, and a link to the Weekday Challenges forum could be provided. I think that would make it a lot more organized and official. That would allow people to link to your homepage and that, in turn, would generate for traffic and links which ultimately would result in more participants. I would love to add it to a toolbar that I’ve created but I need a more definitive entry point for the challenges. This might also make a nice BlenderNation article.

Thanks.

thanks kernond for your suggestions,
I’ve actually registered www.blenderchallenge.com for this purpose recently and I hope to have it up and running in the new year. The challenge entry and voting would stay at blenderartists but the website would be a archive and newspage for the challenge just like you’ve suggested.
The idea for a separate forum on blenderartists (like the one for the weekend challenges) would be great  (mods take note pleeeeaaaaseee  ) as we seem to be drowning out the other ‘one off’ challenges.
I’m trying to finalize the rules in time for the start of challenge #21 and that will be put on blenderchallenge.com

BTW this week’s challenge will rollover to next week unless we get three full entries by the end of today.

I was running out of time with this, so the second two were a bit rushed, especially the last one. If it rolls over I might spend a bit more time on them…

All done using Blender, textures only for colour.

Chimney with Santa-Shredder ™ fitted. Single vane with an array modifier. Bricks are subdivided a lot with very low randomness.

Tree is a randomly subdivided cone, the first few cuts with lowish randomness to get a bit of shape, then lots with very low randomness. The star started as a 10-point circle

This is just a quick hack to make it slightly more interesting than a single box on its own. Ribbons are 3D curves at the top, planes for the flat bits, then the whole thing is dupliverted on a randomly subdivided plane.

Francesco

Ok, only 2 entries so it’s a rollover

Well, Its good for me, I only have 1 entry so far…

I may not finish even with the extension, Just so busy this time of year… :frowning:

Cheers,
Marslyr

Francesco, How did you model the bows, it looks cool!

:(…i stayed up till 2 in the morning to finish…and now I find out I had one more week…oh well, too bad…

EDIT:

@ Lumpycow: first of all thanks…the bow was modelled simply extruding a plane…obviously I had a real example in front of me, which I actually tore apart, to see how it was made…oh…I forgot I also used…LOTS OF PATIENCE…^^

Just to let you know that you are allowed to modify or even replace your entries as much as you want until the times up.

Nice models btw

@Lumpycow
 Pathetically shameless plug :

@kernond,

Its funny I found a link to that whole tutorial, about a week ago, and have just started working through it when I saw your post…

Cheers,
Marslyr

kernond: Why isn’t that video tutorial not appearing in you rss feed? I’ve been subscribed to it for ages and haven’t seen that tutorial anywhere in it!
