Blender will not start. Please Help.

Hello all, I just decided to give Blender a shot again so I went to the website and downloaded the newest version (blender-2.71-windows64.exe) and installed it. Unfortunately, when I try to run it the console window opens with nothing but a blinking cursor in it, and it just sits there. It shows activity on all 4 cores (max 25% per core) so it looks like it is trying to do something, but even leaving it for 8 hours nothing happens. These are the steps I have taken to try to troubleshoot it myself:

  1. Tried running it in console by opening the install folder and running “blender”. - Same result as double clicking the exe.
  2. Uninstalled and deleted the installer, then downloaded the installer again, rebooted, disabled the internet and then all security software, monitoring software, and unneeded processes, reinstalled blender-2.71-windows64.exe. - Same result.

Soo, here I am asking the pro’s for help  Here are my system specs.

I’d start with getting fresh video driver from Nvidia’s site; you have all to work effortless in Blender and this turns to be the tripping point Nr1.

in console by opening the install folder and running “blender”

  • have you seen any error messages in console?

Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable Package installed?
Are you by any chance using non-standard desktop themes? Especially Window Blinds is known to cause startup issues with Blender.

Latest vid driver installed, when I tried to run from console no error code, just flashing prompt.

Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable Package is installed, and I am running Window Blinds 8.05 so it looks like that is the culprit.

Any fixed found for Window Blinds related issues? (It starts right up if I unload Window Blinds)

Never Mind, figured out how to get it to run while Window Blinds is loaded. Just have to go to compatibility in properties and tic “Disable Visual Themes”. Nothing like a situation like this to make an IT professional feel like a toddler… Many thanks to those who took time to help this temporary idiot (sans savant…)
