Blender won't play animations

I can’t get Blender 2.5x to play rendered animations. This problem started when I downloaded the new 2.59 version, and now I can’t even get 2.58 to play animations. I can however play rendered animations on 2.49. It either says "Blender 2.59 doesn’t have a player or something. I’ll post a pic when i can.

Have you set an animation player in the User Preferences / File settings ?

Yes, says "blender 2.4 player.

and you have the older blender-2.49 installed and its path to the player is automatically found by your operating-system?

Test it out of a terminal (command.com windows-window) and try to start:
blender
–? what blender is started? The 2.49 or the 2.5x one?
If the 2.49 is started, then its another problem. If not, then this is the problem, then blender-2.5x cannot find the 2.49-blender-player like you in the terminal. You have to find the path to call it.

And to be shure, please try other kind of video-codecs too
like avi-jpg, mpeg2, and so on … to make shure it is not some older codec-misbehaving …

I am sorry, but I don’t understand what you are saying test-dr. I try to direct blender to the player in the file options tab of the user preferences, but then all it does is run the player in the background with no animation. Same as if I tried to open the blender player from outside of blender. I removed 2.49 from my system to see if it was interfering with 2.59. Had no effect. I have the feeling that this is a problem with some stray .dll or registry entry telling windows that the only program that can run “blenderplayer” is blender 2.49. I’m certainly not well versed enough on that level of windows operation, so it could be anything. I did try using different formats of video with no effect. Same outcome. It pops up with a message that says,“blender 2.59 does not support playback…” then it gives the standard path to blender.exe.

Yet again I have had to find the answer to this problem by myself. This forum is full of braggarts that have no care to help anyone just to post their own accomplishments.

I’ve never been able to use blenderplayer. Why not use another media player? Quicktime is nice because it allows frame by frame dragging.

How did you fix it?

Well, I finally found out that you need to have a copy of blender 2.49 and then you have to direct the post blender 2.49 to the blender 2.49 .exe (not the player). This site is really shit for finding answers to noob things. I think there is a small close knit group in here that know eachother and only watch for each other’s posts or something. That or there just isn’t anyone that feels they know enough to cover the technical support aspect.

I love when I get directed to use the blender.org site and they direct me back to this site.

I’ll probably get banned from here soon for criticizing so much, but honestly I don’t care. I haven’t learned one thing from this forum. If it weren’t for youtube, I’d have never learned blender.

Especially if you act like an ass.
Cool down junior and stop being such a hot head.
