📢 BlenderArtists now has image comparison sliders

You can now add interactive image comparison sliders to your posts on BlenderArtists. For example:

Original artwork: Scottish Cow

This is an update that a lot of community members have been asking for, we’re excited to see what you do with it

It’s quite simple to add an image comparison slider. In the editing toolbar is a new button:

Clicking this will add an image comparison slider. You then replace the placeholder text with two image uploads, like you would with an image gallery.

Nice one,

I remember using some plugin for similar things when I was working with WordPress.

Deja Vu has been here

For anyone wondering about use cases, here’s another one. This is useful for highly technical comparisons where differences between two images are very subtle:

I guess it also could be useful in cases where you need to show the difference in both eevee and cycles renders, or between final and clay renders.

P.S. is there ever be an option to open it in a full size view?

Probably not, there was light box functionality at one point but it wasn’t compatible with some existing stuff

Looking forward to trying this!

For posts in the Finished Artworks, Blender Tests, etc catagories where one of the post’s pics is the thumbnail showing on the catagory page, if this is the only image(s) does it become the thumbnail? If so, which of the two? If there are multiple pics, can the slider be made the thumbnail with |thumbnail ?

Sad to hear that. I mean it would’ve been much better for the images which size are more than 1080p, watching 2k-4k images in a thumbnail kinda hurts the eyes

It works the same as the existing image gallery, the first uploaded image is the thumbnail unless otherwise specified. In this case, if a slider is the only set of images in a post, the image on the left will be the thumbnail by default. You can, however, set the second image to be the thumbnail with “ |thumbnail “

Generally, in artwork cases, I wouldn’t recommend using this by itself- since it doesn’t have light box functionality, I would recommend adding one high quality image first, for the thumbnail, then adding an image slider as well

Joseph is being very modest here, by the way: he developed this feature all by himself as he saw a need for it! :tada:

This is awesome! Final vs wire or clay is a great use case for this kind of thing.

That looks like a super-useful feature!

In case this doesn’t work for other Firefox users, I had to upgrade to 113.0.2 (from 113.0.1).

You scared me with “Firefox”. It took a week of troubleshooting and work, delving into some really esoteric and nasty browser stuff, to get this to work on Firefox at all
