Blenderella Eye Model - Subdivision Surface - Edit mode

I was wondering if anyone knew what was happening here;

I created a uv sphere and followed the instructions to adding an SS,
the applying to the sphere (which doesn’t want to apply in edit mode)
and hit optimal display

however when I hit tab for edit mode so I can select the first two circles
the sphere seems to deselect optimal display and revert to quads in the center

Does anyone know how to keep the center triangles?


if you want triangles simple select whole loop (alt+ edge) and merge them (alt+m), but instead maybe you should try: 1. select edge loop 2. after that press space and type grid fill. With correct adjustment of spans this should give you better output than this amount of tris conected to one point
