I created this in my spare time just to show the gratitude, what are your thoughts?
great work !
This looks like a very interesting ad.
Quality imo.
Thanks a lot! Appreciate the kind words! ![]()
Haha, thank you! I can see how it has that vibe, but I really just wanted to put something together to highlight how far Blender has come. Glad you liked the quality! ![]()
Hey ! It’s a cool tribute, IMO there are probably more to be said about blender history and how and why it’s now more adopted from the industry…
Sure there has been a huge effort from blender to become more industry compatible, which wasn’t always the concern for BF. In the meantime Blender was quite capable very early on.
Validation from industry is obviously great, but it’s also a bit dumb. Blender adoption is probably related to the lack of development and uncertainty of Maya, and the fact that studios needs to reinvent themselves to stay competitive. Trend is also a thing : since many studios use it and do great work, more studios get confident trying it. Even if maybe they could have found some interest long time before.
Also part of what makes blender great is its workflow build around small team and out of the box thinking, but could that survive established industry pipelines that approach production in a very different way ?
Anyway, Blender has become a standard but the workflow made possible by blender has yet to become one ( think how Flow movie was made), also part of the next logical step would be more involvement from studios in blender’s development. I think if we reach these two point we could safely say that blender has really become adopted by the entertainment industry…
In the meantime, evolution of blender from it’s own point of view is also quite interesting, and also evolution from it’s user base is pretty cool too. I find it’s more authentic and refreshing to see even if obviously adoption from industry and seeing blender being considered as a true alternative to Maya and 3ds is always a cool thing to think about.
You probably didn’t expect such a reaction but since you asked "what are your thoughts ? " … to me blender is bringing much more than just being free, it’s also approaching CG from a solo/small team perspective and it tries to empower everyone to be able to do great art without being dependent on big studios and blockbuster industry… this is a much more interesting thing to talk about IMO !
Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and insightful perspective. Honestly, this was exactly the kind of conversation I was hoping to spark!
You hit the nail on the head—Blender isn’t just a free tool; it’s a movement that genuinely empowers solo creators and small teams to bring their dreams to life without needing a massive studio budget behind them. Seeing how far it has come, both technically and as a community, is deeply inspiring. Your point about keeping that authentic, indie-friendly workflow alive while navigating industry adoption really resonates.
Thanks again for such a heartfelt and meaningful contribution to the thread! ![]()
