Blender's Slow Motion Capabilities

Does anybody know about Blender’s capabilities for slow motion simulation?
In particular I’m looking for muzzle flash, but I figure that’s going to be difficult.

Slow motion simulation as in fluid, smoke or physics? Or just slow animation? If you want slow animation, just keyframe at a slower rate, e.g. muzzle flash approx 4 frames realtime, keyframe this, then scale keys in graph editor to stretch (and slow down) time. If it’s a simulation, usually they have their own independent time scale you can set.

Well yes, a muzzle flash simulation using the smoke simulator if that’s possible.
