Blender's UV map generation is a mess. Do you guys know any good UV programs?

Since I discovered unfold 3D a few weeks ago, it’s the one I use: http://www.polygonal-design.fr/e_unfold/index.php

The demo version is enough for me if only the uvmapping is needed.

flipdarkfuture - I’m sorry but when you say that Blender UV system is bad it means that you have no idea how to use it. In my opinion it’s just great, I know that many people use Blender just to unwrap their models. It’s a process that always requires some attention and patience, there’s no good automatic solution. As for 3ds Max - its tools are not as good, really. I think that there are only two things I would really like to be added to Blender - UV Map modifier (virtual box/cylinder/plane etc for fast and intuitive unwrapping) and snapping the whole islands when merging chosen edges to each other.

…and snapping the whole islands when merging chosen edges to each other.

+1 @rozmiarek

I think that one of this year’s SoC projects dealed with automatic unwrapping (avocado branch), but it was done using the bmesh branch.

Probably the coder is waiting for Bmesh to be intruk to do anything useful with it.
