Blending a material to an adjacent material

Hi,

I’m new to Blender and hope this is the proper forum for this question.

For the following object, how can I make a smooth transition from one material to the other instead of getting a sharp cut between the two?

You can use a blend texture or vertex paint to control the mix of two colours (or two shaders). The attribute node is used to select the vertex paint layer to use
