I need some help for a school assignment. How do blind people visualize objects? When people who can see think of an object a picture of it pops up in there mind, but what about blind people. Do they form a mental picture based on the shape of an object they’ve felt, or do they visualize anything at all? Thank you for any replies.
I dont think your going to get too many replies from blind people. Especially blind Blender users.

When one sense is taken away the others are heightened. …ever notice how distinct sounds are when its dark?
In the same way, when we use one of our senses, (and we allow it to happen) the others can become dulled.
I guess this could translate over to the imagination…
Wow, sort of a heavy question. I would suppose that it all boils down to realities and perceptions. If I am blind, and I touch my dog, is the dog different? Or do I just perceive things that others can not? If I am deaf, and I turn up the music with the bass quite high, I can “feel” the music. Is it still music? I think that there are many realities and just as many means of perceiving them. A lack of one sense does not diminish the heart, nor perception, nor is it something to pity. Who knows what you are missing having all of your senses and having to divide your attention amongst them all?

There are different causes of blindness. Someone who injured their eyes probably could visualize objects normally. Someone with brain damage that prevents them from processing visual input probably couldn’t.
Adding on to what PurpleMint said
Although it has nothing to do with blindness, I recently read an article about an autistic savant who visualizes numbers as textures and colors and the way he visualizes the numbers mixing with each other accounts for his stunning ability to do math. So perhaps someone who was born blind “sees” in a different way than you or I could imagine but in a way that allows them to function. I would imagine granting such a person normal eyesight would be almost painful for them.
What’s also neat is the people who are able to make clicking noises and use a basic kind of echolocation
Nah, not really. Try jumping into the deep side of the pool. You might be surprised to find out that you can swim!
