Blocky displacement with BlenderGIS

Hi all

BlenderGIS gives me some block displacement after adding more subdivisions.

I zoomed into some areas to test it for architecture purpose.

Is the downloaded displacement / height map not that good?

i also has problems with it !
try to ask in the home site for this addon

you could also use other soft which might work with 3D higher res model

but be careful you could get file in 10 X gigabytes size

good luck

happy bl

To get rid of this glitch you’d need to have higher resolution of your heightmap. Once resolution of your terrain mesh(count of vertices in rows&columns) gets bigger than resolution of elevation raster(count of pixels in rows&columns) you get into this problem. Basically, neighboring vertices share the same pixel(elevation) in the heightmap.

is there a way to get a higher map through this add-on?

I don’t use this addon to download data as I typically use web map services(WMS) via QGIS or Global Mapper so I think you can use only predefined providers(GoogleMaps etc.), but I may be wrong.
Anyway, if the only issue is that you get blocky displacement just do not upsample your terrain mesh or if you don’t mind the precision use one of the smoothing modifiers.
