nice keep going on >…

update after looong loong break, finally felt the motivation to go back to this one. Fixed some geometry issues and gave few hours to set up good studio scene. To be honest I was quite impressed how much better results I got with just such a little effort.

Critique / anything to improve on? I am thinking this will be my last render for this project if none will come!

Hi there! Nice progress. Still, doors (at least the one visible on render) seem not be fittin well (there’s a gap visible at their bottom, and in the middle, reflection seem not be a continues line). Also, if you’re modelling that version of the car, it’s bottom part near rear wheel looks different in reality (I’m not totally sure how it’s called, but try searching references, compare them to your render and you’ll know what I mean).
Could you also add more light to the front of the car? In my opinion that’s one of the most important car areas, and should be emphasized in render, but I know it’s your vision, and if that’s the way you wanted it to be, well, let it be that way
Just a little bit more effort and it’ll be looking cool!

Sure I’l try to fix those and we’ll see what I come up with!

So here we go, tweaked geometry for a bit and also paid bit more attention to lighting

I can see the improvements but the door still need improving. Doesnt have the factory made straight lines. Nose and front looks very good. The biggest problem seems to be the sideskirt in front of the rear wheel as Cherry mentioned.

Keep at it

Another update, tweking tweking and tweaking it!

hdri, studio, or both? the render looks good, same with shaders, but even for abstract lighting it feels a bit off. may i see ur set up?

I dont know if my HDRI is “right HDRI” as I used a picture of starry sky as Enviroment texture to give some blueish lightning and additionally created “studio” with 4 lights.

Here is screen to make it more clear:

Car material:

thats an impressive car paint material. The studio portion of the lighting i think needs some work. the most complicated part of studio lighting is knowing how little u actually need to produce good results. what i might suggest is a Soft box over the top. The soft box should be aprox 3 times the width of the car, 3 times the length of the car, and should be a cars height above the car. Another lamp i would model is an umbrella lamp. Just make a circle and lower it to 6 sides. Place an empty in the center of the car and track the hexagonal surface to the empty, then bring the umbrella to highlight the front left of the bumper. Do this same constraint with a circular lamp, aprox 25+ sides that will face the rear left bumper where it meets the rear left quarter panel. Leave the HDRi the way you have it. im not sure what image u are using but i will say at an intensity of 17 it should be much brighter.

Over all good work, but 3d lamps are not all that advisable for studio set ups, they create weird reflections. if you are looking to light your scene you should generally try and use spot lamps… and dont forget to go into ray visibility and turn off camera visibility on any soft boxes and umbrella lamps you may have created.

It doesnt look bad as is, but if you try what i suggested i think you might like the results.

again, good work.
