Bone not moving (only rotating) in pose mode

Hello.

I’m new to blender and learning how to rig and animate.
I created my mesh and my rig and after parenting the two together, in pose mode, I can only rotate bones, and not moving…

I see post related to this but in the old version of blender.

Can you help me?

maybe it is parented and connected is checked? You can find it in the Bones/Relations Tab:

I guess this is to prevent any stretching at posing character’s arms/legs etc…

All is the same as you :

If there is a box to check/uncheck, I don’t know where it is…

When I select a bone and try to move it whit G or with the move tool in the top left :

See in relations? See that connected is checked? You want that unchecked.

For whatever reason, Blender only lets you do this in edit mode on the armature. (Dunno why, seems silly to me.)

You can uncheck the box, or you can alt-p (again, in edit) and disconnect bone.

But… if I disconnect… my bones are not… connected… I don’t understand…
I watched a video explaining how to create a rig and parent it to the mesh and just after that, He move some bones and the connected bones scale and rotate to follow…

If you say that I’m obligated to only rotate my bones to make poses and animation… Ok, but it will be to long and why I see vidéos where It can be moved?..

I see what you mean… the Video uses Inverse Kinematics (IK), where you can use bones to manipulate your rig “the other way round”. This is very useful, but another topic. Not necessarily difficult, but not to be discussed here.
In your case, it would be best to leave them connected, because you are not using IK yet and it would cause some weird results at a leg if they weren’t connected… unless this would be wanted for some highly flexible characters :wink:

I just rewatched it again and again to understand and I just see that he moved the perpendicular bones. I think I understand, thanks to you all.
